How personal are some of the folk art works in the exhibition and how personal are they to you? That's because I'm married to Anne Adam, a Virginia native and member of my family, and we're very close friends with her and her family.

I agreed to lend maple syrup to Highland County and Monterey, Va., to Uncle Jack Dey (1912-1978), who lives in Richmond, so that I could visit the paintings as often as I wanted. One of these women, Jay says, inherits the legacy of her great-grandfather, the Lynchburg artist who co-founded the Lynchburg Civic Art League in 1932 and works tirelessly to teach art and exhibit to people of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds. The four artists are joined by a number of other local artists as well as artists from other parts of the country.

Downtown plays a major role in Troy's collection, which includes a handful of paintings by Massie and Carwile, and she now lives in her Rivermont Avenue home. Although I own the works of these masters, it is the high notes that Central Virginia's vast array of artists gives me the best marks. I know what happened locally and globally at the time of production, but the images line every square inch of the wall.

The exhibition of the Lynchburg Art Club in November will show works by several artists, some of whom I teach in watercolor courses. I am one of these artists and I am one of the others, like many of my friends and colleagues in the local art scene, and I am proud to be a part of it.

Clement has been working with metal for seven years and the LOVE sculpture is her first sculpture made entirely of metal. She is also an experienced glassblower and studied with several lecturers, including Robert Mapplethorpe, David Hockenheim, Robert A. Mankiw and others, and at the University of Virginia.

Cornwell said the slogan "Virginia is for Lovers" has been very successful for several years and has been voted the most popular slogan in the state of Virginia for the past three years. Her work includes murals, some of which, perhaps most remarkably, are one of the old post offices in Lynchburg. One could argue that the mural painting of the Academy of Arts has produced other creative people who are grabbing brushes and reinventing the city's aging walls with vibrant colors and designs. She also paints theater sets, plays in small local theaters and sometimes as an artist - in residence at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
